THE ROLE OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS IN SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT

Abstract: This study aimed to explore the role of information systems in supply chain management within organizations. The objectives were to investigate how information systems optimize inventory management, enhance supply chain visibility, and improve coordination among stakeholders. A survey research design was employed to collect quantitative data from 250 respondents, selected using the Taro Yamane formula to ensure representation across manufacturing, retail, and logistics sectors. The study focused on a case study of a multinational corporation in Kaduna, recognized for its advanced supply chain information systems and global logistics operations. Conducted in Kaduna, the reliability coefficient score was calculated at 0.88, indicating strong internal consistency in survey responses. The findings highlighted that integrated information systems play a critical role in optimizing supply chain processes, reducing lead times, and enhancing overall operational efficiency. The study recommends that organizations leverage information systems to integrate supply chain functions, adopt real-time data analytics, and foster collaborative partnerships to achieve supply chain resilience and competitive advantages in global markets.
